Abstract :

BIO DATA Chris Lorence is the General Manager of Engineering Technologies for GE Aviation. In this role, he is responsible for leading innovation as well as advancing key sciences and tools through collaboration with universities, research centers, and companies around the world to develop and implement differentiated engine architectures and technologies. His global organization of over one thousand engineers is responsible for developing competitive gas turbine products and services by integrating key sciences including aerodynamics, combustion, thermal systems, performance and operability. Chris joined GE Aircraft Engines in 1995, where he led the development of the computational fluid dynamics software for aeromechanical and aerodynamic analysis for airfoils, a tool that remains the GE company-wide standard with over one million annual simulations. After working in a variety of assignments in advanced engineering, in 2000 he was named Master Black Belt for e.Business and Information Technology. In 2002, he was promoted to Chief Information Officer, Engineering for GE’s Aviation and Transportation businesses. In 2005, he was named General Manager of the Engineering Tools Center of Excellence, responsible for all engineering software tools development, analytical modeling, setting the engineering productivity strategy and driving synergy across the business segments of GE Aviation, Energy, and Transportation. In 2008, he was promoted to General Manager, Installations Engineering, and in March 2009 his role was expanded to lead the Product Integration Center, with design and manufacturing responsibility for all external engine components, the engine control system, and the GE Infrastructure Queretaro development center in Mexico. In March 2010, he was promoted to his current role, which was expanded in April 2014 to include engineering responsibility for all advanced products. Education: Chris holds B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering Duke University.
